Saint-Colomban des Villards is located in the Vallée des Villards, a valley that has kept the authenticity of a traditional Savoy village. Midway Col du Glandon it is surrounded by woody mountains traversed by rivulets seeking their way down to the valley.

In winter Saint-Colomban des Villards is a paradise for skiing and snowboarding. Its ski area is located on the edge of the ski area Les Sybelles, with 310km ski run. The ski run of Saint-Colomban des Villards itself offers plenty of peaceful space for quality skiing. During season torchlight skiing, competions, walking tours in ski footwear… are organised. Chaine de Belledonne, the mountain range near Saint-Colomban des Villards, is renowned with ski mountaineering lovers who find numerous opportunities to practice their sport. Annually the international competition La Sybelle Villarinche takes place in Saint-Colomban des Villards.
